Game 9 - 10/29/11 @ Minnesota Wild - Final Score: DET 0-1 MIN

“We played way better (the last two nights). We’re not scoring easy. We’re not scoring at all. We haven’t all played where we feel like we got the feel. And they’re good players, they’re going to get that because there’s no way we can suddenly be a team that can’t score. So to me, just keep working, keep doing good things and good things will happen.” — Mike Babcock

Recap

ST. PAUL, Minn. — After a blazing start, their best in 39 years, the Detroit Red Wings have gone ice cold.

Josh Harding was playing just his second game in 18 months Saturday – both have been at home against Detroit. But his inactivity due to injuries didn’t matter. Harding made 36 saves and Dany Heatley’s first-period goal was all the Minnesota Wild needed to defeat the Red Wings 1-0 at the Xcel Energy Center.

Recap

COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Red Wings wanted better out of their special teams, out of Ty Conklin, out of themselves, basically, after being humbled by the NHL’s best.

Instead they got beat by the NHL’s worst, as the Blue Jackets notched their first victory of the season, 4-1, Tuesday at Nationwide Arena after starting 0-7-1. The Wings gave up a quick goal and a power-play goal in the first period.

Recap

WASHINGTON — The Red Wings faced their toughest opponent yet, and wound up with their first loss. It was a big one.
The Capitals looked deep and dangerous as they tore into the Wings on Saturday night at Verizon Center, delivering one blow after another to win, 7-1, and remain the only undefeated team in the NHL.

The Wings came to town with a five-game winning streak after beating Columbus on Friday night at home, but they were stifled early by Tomas Vokoun and late by surge after surge of skaters.

Recap

After hibernating for six days — or two weeks, if you count an 0-for-18 stretch to start the season — the Red Wings’ power play woke up Friday night at Joe Louis Arena.

Johan Franzen tallied two early power-play goals, and Nicklas Lidstrom added a third as the Wings beat the Columbus Blue Jackets, 5-2, for their first 5-0 start since the 1972-73 season.
